On Friday 6th December, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council opened up the highly acclaimed Noosa Aquatic Centre for a site visit for not only ALFAQ members but industry professional in general.
Following a welcome from outgoing councilor Russell Greene the 20 odd attendees were shown through the facility by centre manager Stephen James. The Noosa Aquatic Centre’s holistic approach to water, energy and waste saving initiatives was recently recognised by the pool and spa industries highest sustainability accolade at the National SPLASH Environmental Awards in 2012.
Key initiatives include …
- Solar heating for pool water
- Installation of variable speed drives on circulation pumps
- Backwash water recycling
- Rain water harvesting for amenities use and pool top up
- Waste minimisation
The award winning Noosa Aquatic Centre is clearly a state of the art facility and attendees appreciated the opportunity to personally experience the centre for themselves and acknowledged why the NAC was judged Australia’s most sustainable Aquatic Centre in the Outdoor Commercial Pool Category.
The NAC was also the major case study for the Queensland Aquatics Sustainability Program (QASP). The case study findings can be downloaded here.
